In South Africa when there is sunshine and rain at the same time we call it “A Monkey’s Wedding.” My kids tell me here in Mauritius it’s called “A Monkey’s Wedding but a Snail’s Divorce” The most charming description for this mixed weather is from Hawaii where they call it “Liquid Sunshine.” And on those days when there is sunshine overhead but it’s dark and you can see the rain on the horizon, it’s called “Ghost Rain”. We get that a lot here on the island, “Ghost Rain” creeping towards us over the sea.
Years ago whilst traveling in the States we saw an up and coming funky band in a charming corner bar in San Francisco. They were called Liquid Sunshine, since then, I’ve loved those words. There are so descriptive, perfectly describing the feeling of summer days.
Ama and JJ got married during a rainstorm in Prague two years ago so they found it quite fitting, to be snuggling up again under the rain clouds of Mauritius, for their couple portrait photo shoot.
The first thing Ama told me when we met was that they are a happy couple who like to have fun. How perfectly gorgeous is that? They were in love and happy to be together away from the “grown up world” of responsibilities and seriousness. Their smiles and laughter bubbled over. We chatted away so easily and happily that I had to keep reminding them that they had wanted me to take some photos of them.
Here’s to romance and liquid sunshine.
